Cyma Tavannes is a former Swiss watchmaking company that was created when two separate companies, Cyma and Tavannes, merged in 1903. The company was known for producing high-quality mechanical movements and watches. Also, their watches were particularly popular in the mid-20th century and were known for their precision and reliability featuring high-quality movements, including automatic and chronometer-grade calibers.
In the 1960s, the company was acquired by the group that would later become the Swatch Group

Today, we are presenting a very attractive timepiece, it is a vintage Cyma automatic wristwatch reference 21214.6 and dated from the late 1940s early 1950s.
It is a self-winding watch powered by an original Cyma Tavannes movement, bumper automatic caliber R.420, featuring a central second and 17 jewels; unadjusted, Swiss made. It beats at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (vph) and it has a power reserve of around 30 hours.
About the Cyma Cal. 420 – The Cyma caliber 420 was the first Cyma automatic movement. It is a vintage mechanical movement used in watches produced by Cyma in the mid-20th century. The caliber 420 was available in several versions, including a bumper automatic movement, also the 420 was one of their popular calibers.
The bumper automatic movement is a type of automatic movement that uses a rotor to wind the mainspring, but instead of a full 360-degree rotation, the rotor "bumps" against springs at each end of its arc. This type of movement was popular in the 1940s and 1950s.
The Caliber 420 bumper automatic movement has 17 jewels, and it beats at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (vph). It has a power reserve of around 40 hours, which means it can run for approximately two days after being fully wound.
This watch still has the original (in very good condition) white dial featuring silver Arabic Numerals and hour marker applied, bold minute track and silver matching hands. The dial is also signed with the Cyma name and Automatic Waterproof.
It is cased in a 34.2mm round shape case and fancy lug design, all in stainless steel. The case back is also signed by Cyma Watch Co. Swiss Made.
This watch comes on a vintage black two-piece alligator leather strap.
It is still in good condition. Runs very well and keeps great time.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
