Here is a very handsome vintage Elgin wristwatch from 1947. The silver dial appears two-toned thanks to the teaked pattern of the dial. It has a light patina. The dial also features gold Arabic numerals for 3, 6, 9, and 12, and gold daggers in place of the remaining numerals. The hour hand is Alpha-shaped, and the minute hand is sword-shaped, while the sub second is stick-shaped. All three hands are gold. The sub second features a nice crosshair pattern.

The silver rectangle case features unique serrated edges on the vertical sides, with fancy lugs. The case dimensions are 26.7 x 34 mm. The case back features no identifying markings, inside nor out. The crystal is a curved dome.

The American movement is revealed once one opens the snap case back. It is a caliber 557, 15 jewels, and has 4 adjustments. The movement serial number is U402337. (The serial number clued us in to the year this particular wristwatch was produced, however, we have not been able to find the name of this particular model.) The movement runs great!

It comes on a 21 mm brown leather two-piece strap that tapers down to 19 mm at the silver buckle. It has light brown stitching. It is genuine leather and waterproof.

This Elgin two-toned teaked dial is a very handsome timepiece to wear and/or add to any watch collection.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
