"The only watch in history to win 10 World's Fair Grand Prizes and 28 Gold Medals -- to be classified 'first' in competitions organized by the four government observatories; Washington, Kew-Teddington, Neuchatel and Geneva -- official watch for sports and contest associations the world over." Longines Wittnauer Watch Co. INC.

Longines Watch Co. is one of the oldest watch manufactures from Switzerland with a wonderful and unmatched history of invention, innovation, patents and awards. Longines made some of the most beautiful watches ever made!

Monopusher “Flyback”
Chronograph Wristwatch
Chronostop Watch

“The origin of the chronograph in pocket watches is disputed, but it's known that master French watchmaker, Louis Moinet, produced a stopwatch-like timepiece in 1816. These early pocket-bound chronographs all bore a single pusher that starts, stops, and resets the chronograph function.

Longines honors the distinction of producing the first chronograph wristwatch in 1913 – when watches were carried in the pocket and not worn on the wrist. The first chronograph by Longines was powered by the caliber 13.33Z, precursor to the celebrated 13ZN. Two decades later, in 1936, Longines developed the flyback chronograph without the addition of another pusher to reset the chronograph. Until the flyback chronograph (or monopusher chronograph) came into scene, the chronograph simply could not be reset without stopping it first.

Representing Longines’ mastery of the chronograph – “The Longines monopusher or chronostop combines two elements that Longines did well, yet rarely put together: a central-minutes counter and a single pusher.”

Released in 1936 and cataloged as “Technical and Aviation Watches – The Stop Second” during the 1940s, this UNIQUE timepiece is a vintage Longines monopusher “flyback” chronograph or chronostop wristwatch dated from 1949. It is a manual wind watch powered by an original Longines movement caliber 12.68Z, 17 jewels, sub second, unadjusted, signed BREVET, Swiss made. It featured a monopusher (single button) chronograph which allows to reset the chronograph without having to stop it first. “Favorite among aviators, who used the feature for navigation.”

Stunning, still the original, silvered dial with gold Breguet numerals and gold matching hands, blued-steel central minutes counter. The dial is signed "PATENT". It features a central minute counter hand in blued steel and a central second-hand, both return on the fly chronograph with single chronograph button.

Super handsome 31mm (39.4mm Lug to Lug, wears larger due to crown and pusher) diameter round case with sharp lugs, all in 10K yellow gold-filled case. The crystal is in excellent condition. This watch is coming with a new-old-stock signed “Hirsch Lizardgrain” brown two-piece strap. Also, it is coming in the original Longines display box and Longines Guarantee papers.

Representing an era with achievements in horology, this Longines monopusher chronograph is an absolute must have timepiece for any serious collector of complications, chronographs, or historic Longines timepieces. It is VERY uncommon to find one of these in such excellent condition, cosmetically and mechanically. for sure a must for any watch collection. This watch is in remarkable condition. Runs very well, keeps great time.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men's watches typically measure between 29-36mm (some larger, some smaller) wide excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women's watches from the 1900s-1970s were also somewhat smaller than today’s offerings in many cases. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust light, when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.
See all the photos, feel free to ask questions if you have any.
